For the past few years I have been making my own jam since the jams I am looking for do not exist in stores. Almost all store bought jams have added sugars, pectins, chemicals and God knows what else. Apparently it is too much to ask for a completely all natural jam made from just fruit.

I have made loads of different kinds of jams from peach, strawberry, wild berry, raspberry, to strawberry rhubarb, but my favorite is my blueberry jam. At my parent’s house there are 5 blueberry bushes in their backyard, so each summer we get gallons of blueberry jam that we freeze or make into tons of jam to jar.

With four simple ingredients, wild blueberries, chia seeds, lemon juice, and honey or stevia, this blueberry jam is easy to make and a great alternative to store bought jams. It is perfect for snacking, on crackers, in sandwiches, or on breakfast pancakes and oats! Definitely give it a shot for a great healthy jam for your next PB&J.

Ingredients:

  1. 5 cups of wild blueberries
  2. Juice of one lemon
  3. 3 TB chia seeds
  4. honey or stevia to taste

*will need blender or immersion blender

Instructions:

  1. Put the blueberries and lemon juice into a pot over medium heat. Let them heat up and they will swell and start to burst. This should take 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. Once they are mushy transfer to a blender and pulse twice, or more if you want thinner jam (or you can use an immersion blender but this gets messy). Transfer back to pot.
  3. Over med/low heat add the chia seeds and mix in. Stir for 10 minutes, you should start noticing the chia seeds becoming jelly like. At this point add the sweetener to taste, I don’t add too much since I like my blueberry jam all natural!
  4. Jar in a mason jar and store on pantry, or jar in a non sealed lid and store in the fridge!
