One of my absolute favorite snacks are candied pecans – so much so that I cannot keep them in the house. But almost all of the candied pecans you can find are made with cane sugar, corn syrup, or other crap that I try to avoid. So instead I make my own with maple syrup!
Make these candied pecans for all kinds of things, including salad toppers, desserts, or Christmas gifts!
Ingredients:
3 | cups raw pecans | ¾ | maple syrup | ½ | tsp salt | 2 | tsp pumpkin pie spice |
Preparation:
STEP 1.
In a pot over medium heat, add all of your ingredients and bring the syrup up to a bubbling simmer.
STEP 2.
Mix the pecans with a rubber spatula as the syrup simmers, making sure you coat all of the pecans. Do this for 10-15 minutes until most of the liquid has evaporated. Once all of the syrup has evaporated and the sugar has thickened around the pecans, turn off the heat.
STEP 3.
Lay the pecans on a sheet tray and spread in an even layer. Let them cool / dry for 20 minutes. After the 20 minutes you should have hardened candied pecans! If they are still sticky, that means you didn’t thicken the syrup enough and they need to go back in the pot to cook the rest of the way! Store them at room temperature in a bag or jar and enjoy!
