This teriyaki sauce is a soy free, gluten free, and refined sugar free version of a traditional teriyaki sauce. I have been making this for years ever since I have been gluten free and soy free. It is the same recipe I use for my clients, and it is one of the most popular dishes whenever this sauce is in it!

Instead of soy sauce I use coconut aminos. It is a great soy free / gluten free alternative that has a similar taste. I also use Date Lady’s date sugar as a sweetener. It is much more nutrient dense than the traditional refined sugars and much better for you! You can use code “CLEANKITCHEN” for 15% off any Date Lady products.

Teriyaki goes great with any meat, personally my favorite is chicken or beef!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups coconut aminos
  • Juice from one orange
  • 1 tsp ginger powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • red pepper flakes to taste
  • 2 tbsp date sugar, I use Date Lady
  • 1 tbsp arrowroot powder

Preparation:

STEP 1.

In a pot, whisk together the coconut aminos, orange juice, ginger, garlic, red pepper flakes, and date sugar.

STEP 2.

Place the pot stovetop and bring up to a simmer.

STEP 3.

In a bowl, whisk together the arrowroot powder and two tablespoons of water until smooth. While the teriyaki sauce is simmering, whisk in the arrowroot powder to thicken. You must whisk in while the sauce is simmering or boiling or it will not thicken! If you want it thicker, make more arrowroot slurry and add to the sauce.

STEP 4.

Cool and store in the fridge.
