If you have not tried crispy salmon, then this dish is for you! I first starting making this for a client that I cook weekly for who likes Asian style food and seafood. I wanted to create a dish that was both saucey, and crispy, and this was the result!

This is a super easy, quick, and perfect for weeknight dish. The sesame sauce is gluten free, soy free, and comes together in under 10 minutes. The salmon is simple, crispy, and impossible to mess up!

Keys to Crispy Salmon:

  • Cube your salmon into even sizes, they can be small, or big, just make them all the same.
  • Coat the salmon in salt and then pure starch like cornstarch or arrowroot powder – this is what makes it crispy!
  • Use a nonstick pan.
  • Only add the sauce once the outside of the salmon is golden brown and crispy.

What to serve it with:

  • Calrose rice, Jasmine or Basmati rice
  • Cauliflower rice
  • Broccoli, Carrots, Snap Peas, Mushrooms

  • ACTIVE TIME: 25 Mins
  • TOTAL TIME: 35 Min

Ingredients:

  • Sauce:
    • 3/4 cup coconut aminos
    • 1 tbsp sesame oil
    • 3 tsp honey
    • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
    • 1/2 tsp ginger powder
    • 2 tsp arrowroot
    • sesame seeds
  • 1 lb salmon, cubed
  • salt
  • 1/4 cup arrowroot powder
  • avocado oil
  • green onions, sliced, for garnish

Preparation:

STEP 1.

Make the sauce. Add coconut aminos, sesame oil, honey, garlic and ginger powder to a pot and bring it up to a simmer. In a small bowl whisk together the 2 tsps of arrowroot powder and 2 tsps of water, once smooth, whisk this into the simmering sauce to thicken. If you want the sauce thicker, add more arrowroot slurry. Garnish with sesame seeds and set aside.

STEP 2.

Cube salmon and salt and pepper all over. Coat with arrowroot powder so it is evenly coated all over.

STEP 3.

In a nonstick pan or wok over medium heat, add avocado oil. Once hot, add the salmon in an even layer and cook for 3 minutes until golden brown, flip over and cook another, 3 minutes.

STEP 4.

Once the salmon is brown and crispy, add sesame sauce and bring up to a simmer. Reduce the sauce for 3-5 minutes, or until it is thickened and coats the salmon.

STEP 5.

Garnish with green onions and serve.
