Call me basic, but one of my favorite salsas is Pico de Gallo. In the middle of tomato season, it is one of my favorite snacks and appetizers. Here is my simple, go to recipe for this delicious salsa!

Ingredients and Substitutions:

  • Roma Tomato – I like using a roma tomato here, but honestly, any tomato works. Grape, cherry, heirloom, etc. Whatever tomato you like, use it.
  • White Onion – This is the most traditional onion to use in this salsa. I also like using a red onion. Avoid yellow onions.
  • Jalapeno – I like jalapenos for the mild kick they have. If you want something stronger, use a serrano pepper.
  • Cilantro – Would it be a salsa without cilantro? No….but if you are one of those people that cilantro tastes like soap, just omit.
  • Lime Juice – Make sure to use fresh lime juice here for the best flavor. If you don’t have a lime, you can use a lemon for some acid.
