Chili Garlic Baby Broccoli

Baby broccoli is one of my favorite vegetables to cook and eat because it’s flavorful and has a much better texture than regular broccoli. To me, it feels like the fancier, more grown-up version. This chili garlic baby broccoli is a great recipe if you’re just starting out with baby broccoli, and it can be made in under 30 minutes.

Key Ingredients & Substitutions:

  • Baby broccoli – You can also use broccolini here.
  • Butter – This is for the fat and the flavor, however you can use olive oil.
  • Garlic – Make sure to use freshly mined garlic, not the jarred kind.
  • Chili Flakes – This is if you want a small kick to it. Omit if you cannot do spice.
  • Fresh Lemon Juice – You can use any citrus of choice here like limes or oranges.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb baby broccoli, ends removed
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 tsp chili flakes
  • 1 lemon, juiced

Preparation:

STEP 1.
Blanch the broccoli. Bring a pot of water up to a boil and add a few tablespoons of salt. Add the broccoli and blanch for 1-2 minutes until it is al dente but can be pierced with a fork. Transfer to an ice bath to stop the cook process. Then dry with paper towels.

STEP 2.
Saute the broccoli. In a pan over medium heat, melt the butter. Once bubbling, stir in the broccoli and season with salt and pepper to taste.

STEP 3.
Stir in the garlic and saute for 2 minutes. Stir in the red pepper flakes and the lemon juice and saute for another 3-5 minutes to have the flavors come together.

STEP 4.
Taste for seasoning and adjust accordingly. Serve and enjoy!
