I believe anyone and everyone can cook a great steak! Steak seems intimidating because of the high cost, but it is quite simple as long as you follow the tips in this video!

First things first, always use a meat thermometer when starting off. This means you will never overcook or undercook a steak. Also, pull your steak out about 5 degrees from where you want it. For example, I like mine at a medium rare, around 130. I pull it out at 125ish because it keeps cooking a little off heat.

This technique works for any steak, but if you steak is thin you probably do not need to finish it in the oven. My favorite steaks for this are a thick filet mignon or ribeye!

This is a fool proof way to cook a great steak! Grab a meat thermometer and you are good to go!

Ingredients:

  • 1 thick steak like filet mignon or ribeye, around 2 inches thick
  • salt and pepper
  • Avocado oil or high smoke point oil
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 cloves of garlic, smashed
  • 2 sprigs rosemary
  • 2 sprigs thyme

Preparation:

STEP 1.

Salt and pepper the steak at least an hour before for optimal flavor. Pat dry with a paper towel.

STEP 2.

Preheat oven to 400*F.

STEP 3.

In a stainless steel pan or cast iron, heat your pan to medium high heat. Coat with oil and once hot add your steak presentation side down. Make sure the pan isn’t smoking. After you get a nice sear, flip the steak over and decrease heat to medium low. Add butter, garlic, rosemary and thyme, and baste the steak with butter, using a spoon. Baste for about 1-2 minutes and transfer to the oven.

STEP 4.

Check your steak’s internal temperature after 3-5 minutes to see where you are at. If your internal meat thermometer reads in the 120s-130s, your steak is done. If not, leave in the oven until the internal temperature is where you want it. Remove the steak and rest on a cool plate.

STEP 5.

Rest your steak, do not slice it yet! If you slice too early, all of the juices will run out and your steak will be dry. Rest for 10 minutes and then enjoy!
